DAY4は、前日にフィールドレコーディングワークショップを行ったRoom40を主催するサウンドアーティストのローレンス・イングリッシュ(Lawrence English)のソロパフォーマンスと、実験映像作家である牧野貴とローレンスの共演、さらにRoom40からもリリースを行うtenniscoatsの植野隆司のソロパフォーマンスです。

ローレンスのパフォーマンスは音と身体性の関係性を描き出すような実験的で強度の高いものです。

牧野貴はフィルムの傷やノイズ、テクチャーなどから抽象的かつ宇宙的な映像を作り出す映像作家で、Grouper、渡邊琢磨、Jim O’Rourkeなどの音楽家との共演でも知られています。

植野隆司はtenniscoatsにおけるオープンで即興的な演奏活動に加え、ソロではギターが持つ響きを探求した美しい作品を生み出している音楽家です。

この日のプログラムを通し、ローレンス・イングリッシュと牧野貴の共演と、日本ではなかなか観ることのでできない貴重なローレンス・イングリッシュのソロセット、植野隆司のユニークなギターの世界を堪能してください

Lawrence English(Room40)

ローレンス・イングリッシュは、オーストラリアを拠点とするアーティスト、作曲家、キュレーター。

多様な美学的探究を横断しながら、彼の作品は知覚の政治性を探り、場、主体性、そして記憶に関する問いを投げかける。

身体的なライブ・パフォーマンスやサイトスペシフィックなインスタレーションなど、さまざまなアプローチを用いて、オーディエンスが聴くこと、場所、そして身体性と自身との関係を再考できるような作品を制作している。

この10年余りのあいだ、彼は音を身体化された経験のためのメディウムとして用いながら活動しており、音が持つ変容的で感覚的、そして境界を横断する可能性への関心を広く共有することに力を注いでいる。

一方、イングリッシュはシドニー・マイヤー・クリエイティブ・フェローに選出され、2017年には博士号取得に伴い優秀博士論文賞を受賞した。

またロサンゼルスでのパブリックアート作品《Seirá》において、マイク・ケリー財団の支援を受けている。

2022年には、インスティテュート・オブ・モダン・アートの年間顕彰（Annual Honouree）にも任命された。

Lawrence English is an artist, composer and curator based in Australia. Working across an array of aesthetic investigations, English’s work explores the politics of perception and prompts questions of field, agency and memory. English utilises a variety of approaches including visceral live performance and site-specific installation to create work that invites audiences to consider their relationship to listening, place and embodiment. Over the past decade he has worked with sound as a medium for embodied experience and is determined to share his interests in the transformative and sensorial transgressive possibilities of sound. He is a Sidney Myer Creative fellow, was awarded an outstanding doctorial thesis award in conjunction with his PhD in 2017 and has been supported by the Mike Kelley Foundation for his public artwork project in Los Angeles, Seirá. In 2022, he has been appointed the Annual Honouree by the Institute Of Modern Art.

牧野貴

1978年東京都生まれ。神奈川県在住。

2001年に日本大学芸術学部映画学科撮影・録音コースを卒業後、渡英。ブラザーズ・クエイのアトリエコニンクを訪問し、映像、照明、音楽に関しての示唆を受ける。その後、カラーリストとして、多くの劇映画やCF、ミュージックビデオ等の色彩を担当し、フィルム及びビデオに関する技術を高めながら、2004年より自身の作品上映を開始した。自然現象や人間、街など既成のオブジェクトを、フィルムやビデオなど様々なフォーマットで撮影する。編集段階において重層化して構築し、無限に広がり続けるような極めて有機的で想像的な牧野の映像作品は、映画界、美術界共に国際的に高く評価されている。現在は日本を拠点に、映画、音楽、インスタレーション、オーディオビジュアルパフォーマンスなどを世界各地で発表している。2011年にはロッテルダム国際映画祭短編部門でグランプリにあたるタイガーアワードを受賞した他、ハンブルグ国際短編映画祭、モスクワ国際実験映画祭、25FPSクロアチア国際実験映画祭でもグランプリを獲得 (全て日本人初) するなど、国際映画祭での受賞歴は幾多にも及ぶ。映画作品はこれまで120都市以上で上映されており、近年では、ドクメンタ14 (アテネ)、サンフランシスコMOMA、MOMAPS1、ニューミュージアム、ニューヨーク映画祭 (全てアメリカ)、ホワイトチャペルギャラリー (イギリス)、韓国映像資料院 (韓国)、オーストリア映画博物館 (ウィーン)、BFI IMAX シアター (イギリス) などでも上映された。なお、牧野は音楽家とのコラボレーションも活発に行なっており、Lawrence English、Grouper、渡邊琢磨、Jim O'Rourke、大友良英、Okkyung Leeなどとの共演でも知られ、坂本龍一の「PERFORMANCE IN NEW YORK: async」には映像提供も行なった。

Born in Tokyo, 1978. Lives and works in Kanagawa.

Takashi Makino graduated from Cinematography / Sound Recording course at Department of Cinema at Nihon University College of Art, Japan in 2001 and he studied about film, lighting, and music under Quay Brothers at Atelier Koninck QBFZ in London in 2001. Makino gained his skills relating to film and videos while he was undertaking coloration as a Colorist on various filmography, CF, and music videos from 2001 to 2011. He has been started screening his works since 2004. He captures video of ready-made objects including natural phenomena, human, and cities with various formats. And he layers and configures them while in an editing process, his quite organic yet imaginative films, which seem like bursting unlimitedly are highly regarded internationally. Makino is currently based in Japan and presents movies, music, installation, audiovisual performances around the world. Makino awarded the Tiger Award at International Film Festival Rotterdam in 2011 and he also received various awards at several international film festivals including Hamburg International Short Film Festival, Moscow International Film Festival, and he also awarded the Grand Prize at 25FPS International Experimental Film and Video Festival. His cinema works were screened in over 120 cities in the world. Recently screened in documenta 14, Athens, Greece (2017); Austrian Film Festival, Vienna, Austria (2017); New York Film Festival, New York, USA (2014, 2017); Whitechapel Gallery, London, UK (2016); The Korean Film Archive, Seoul, Korea (2016); BFI IMAX Theatre, London, UK (2016); MoMAPS1, New York, USA (2013); San Francisco MoMA, USA (2009); New Museum of Contemporary Art, New York, USA (2008).Makino is also actively engaged in collaborations with musicians. He is known for performing with Lawrence English, Grouper, Takuma Watanabe, Jim O'Rourke, Otomo Yoshihide, and Okkyung Lee. He also provided video work for Ryuichi Sakamoto’s PERFORMANCE IN NEW YORK: async.

植野隆司

テニスコーツの片方。ソロでもギターや弾き語り、DJなど。最近は企画もよく頼まれてやってる。サックスも吹く。誰かと組み合わせのライブもある。基本的には宅録が一番好き。

One half of Tenniscoats. Also performs solo with guitar, singing, and occasionally as a DJ. Recently, he has often been invited to curate and organize events. He also plays saxophone and sometimes performs in collaborative live sets with other artists. Basically, home recording is what he enjoys the most.
